So yesterday, I learned that if you wait til 10pm to write an essay due the next day, you will be up til 5am, but today, I learned that if you start research for a project the night before it's due and 30 minutes before the library closes, you will never finish!

However, this is still a good time for an impromptu livejournal post. Here are some pictures of last weekend:

and more )

Yeah I know, my hair is huge and completely out of hand, and it's getting cut this weekend, but also check out the creepy man behind me in the 5th picture. Also, the ugly date at the bottom of the pictures is Taryn's fault. Anyway, Rebecca and Taryn came to visit and we went to the Kingshead, which I will have to return to soon. The next day, I tolerated the wretching noises from down the hall nursed Taryn back to health, then headed home for my brother's birthday. The day after that, my brother came back with me, stayed overnight and the next day, I added Broken Social Scene to the list of amazing concerts this year. A good time was had by all. Tomorrow, I see the Jill Townsend Big Band again at the Cellar, which should be good. I would write a bit about how I'm doing in classes, except I don't show up often enough to get any feedback. It's funny but true! Still have yet to get back a history test and english essay which were handed back a month ago. Oh well, they'll get to me eventually. Now,back to Peter the Great. Thank you internet, for allowing me to fabricate sources after the library closes!

The time has come for an update!

November 1st, 2005 (02:28 am)
current song: Broadcast-Colour Me In

I update this thing as if I never have any spare time, which I really, really do! I still don't feel like an actual university student because I do no work. Far less work than high school, actually. ANYWAY, my life has been exciting as the trend would suggest for the last weekend, but this time I have pictures, so why not post?

Friday was a final, frantic search for a Halloween costume, which resulted in my finding an amazingly cute chipmunk (/squirrel/bear/gopher?) costume, after searching in vain for "kitten", "avian flu", "zombie kitten" and finally "whatever the hell I can get my hands on." Cam and I bussed it up to SFU to meet Taryn/Colin (that place is freakin cold), and we hit up the East Hastings value village, for the experience, before heading downtown. Besides a McDonalds bandana (???) and a skirt for Taryn, that was fruitless, but a "vintage costume sale" on Granville had some amazing, as well as cheap, costumes...and so I was a chipmunk. There are pictures of this costume out there, and when I receive them they may or may not be posted. Cam was in fetish wear and after meeting up with Tia, Mike and others, we headed down to the Vanier halloween dance, which was fun despite the undeniably awful music. It ended up being quite the queerfest, as pretty much all of us Vanier ones crowded the middle stage and were generally uncouth. Apparently even the drunkennes factor of graffiti night (Colin wakes up in a jail cell) was less than that of the Halloween dance (Tia wakes up with a dismantled shelf, broken glass on the floor and gashes in her leg.) Overall, a good night.

Saturday, these three girls decided to come over for a visit:

and there was ensuing hilarity )

The hair/eyeliner/nail polish was a legacy of Cam's amazing fetish costume, and the girls' costumes speak for themselves. Those girls were crazy, let me tell you. Their tendency to be amazed at foreign accents attracted attention to them though. I'm feeling merciful so I'll leave out the pictures in which Harpreet is topless.

Yesterday was the second of this month's two amazing concerts. The first was Arcade Fire, with the almost-as-amazing Belle Orchestre opening. This time it was Metric, and my first time seeing a show at the Commodore. I doubted the stories about the bouncy floor until she really got going and the whole floor bounced! Fantastic! Most Serene Republic was equally amazing.

+++ )

Finally, we went out for dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown. Watching my brother squirm as my mother called and berated him for being downtown so late (8:30?!) made me even more appreciative of my new living conditions. Hearing funny stories about his now girlfriend (but not for long!) was cool...I get along with all of my family so well now that I'm not living with them and even (gasp) enjoy their company.

These dark smudges are my brother and Taryn.

And here is arcade fire )

So, despite my frequent wasting of time and being completely irresponsible about classes and anything school-related, life is good. I have realized that I should do something more productive with the time that I spend not doing homework, so I am looking into a volunteer program in the downtown eastside while I am living here. The next month looks like it will actually entail schoolwork that must be done, rather than readings that I put off indefinitely (5 essays + 2 tests + 2 projects) but also some cool concerts! Broken Social Scene is in two weeks, Bella and others are playing at Mesa Luna next week, and there's a couple Vancouver Symphony Orchestra shows I'm hoping to see now that I can get in for $10. Also, my brother and Jessica will hopefully visit on the second weekend, and Erika possibly on the third. Although it still feels early, I must now sleep so that I am my usual 10 minutes late to french, rather than the even more fashionable 30 minutes. Oh, speaking of boys, Cam is just great.

current song: Andrew Bird/Tilly and the Wall

It poured today; I love the rain. I went to my history tutorial and found out that we were to be finished reading the book by today...I said nothing all class but this means I successfully got by without reading that awful book! I sat in/walked through Nitobe gardens today while it was pouring and it was completely empty and so, so beautiful. Ditto for the sunset. Then I had a beautiful visitor. Then I wasted 3 hours of my life going to the KU lounge and watching Eyes Wide Shut! What an awful, messed up movie (I hear the book is better.)

I am worried about Yoojin, since she keeps having to go back to UBC Hospital and is now getting an external heart monitor put on for a while. Hopefully it is just something small.

Time for french composition from hell. Seulement 200 mots, c'est trop facile.
